Current mood: contemplative

That time of the year again:
Tonight Donnie Darko was on tv. Again. I guess that it must be becoming sort of a tradition for them. A tradition I like, I might add.

It's odd, as the last time, the movie seems to precede a time of changes in my life. And also, again this time I watched it from beginning to end. It's interesting, I've seen it more than four times, I've got it in DVD but the movie still catches my attention like the first time.

I love the story, the acting (the Gyllenhall brothers are great, and so is Mary McDonnell), but what always hooks me it's the film's mood. That undefinable atmosphere of dread, melancholy and otherworldlyness that permeates everything, and that it's magnificiently created by the soundtrack.

The world definitely needs more movies like this one.

***

Which reminds me that I've got to go to the cinema to see Jaume Balaguero's REC, and possibly Elizabeth: The Golden Age. The first one even being a zombie flick seems promising, the second one seems a little bit scary (well to be more accurate its depiction of Spain seems a bit scary), but I'm still interested anyway. I'll share my thoughts if I finally manage to see them :-).

Otherworldliness?

Otherworldliness? Very first time I see this world....oops! word, I might say.XD I love it anyway!!!!
I'm also impatient to see REC but I'm afraid good movies don't always reach minor islands on time. I've seen "Michael Clayton", "The Flock" and "Lions for Lambs". Very interesting all of them, especially the last two ones. Fortunately, I've come back to my once-a-week cinema tradition (that's what happens when no e-mule is available anymore).

How are things going for you? Nice, I hope. How does it feel when you set sails for the first time with no parental guidance? XD

Work is doing pretty well, inner life is being re-established, everything works fine safe for what I mentioned earlier. I'm just waiting for the final day to come, and doing my best for both of us. But sometimes I just feel I can't hold a candle to the matter and it overwhelms me.

Hugs and kisses,

Estefanía.

That is my dear lady, because it's obviously a self-made word ;-).

I'm glad to see that you're still alive, must be some tough times those you're facing there :-S.

As for me, things are getting interesting here. I signed up for the JELINT grant (and in a week or so I should have an idea of what my chances are with it...), and I've got more tests for a job in Cajacanarias tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have more to tell in a while.

Take care ;-)!

Mad world...

As you said, this charmingly odd movie it's a kind of signal. Everytime I watch it I feel someone -maybe the world itself, is trying to tell me something very important. So, for the very last moment in which this film ends I hear a soft voice... "All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces, bright and early for their early races, going nowhere. Their tears are filling up their glasses, no expression, hide my head and I want to drown my sorrow, no tomorrow... And I find it kinda funny, I find kinda sad, the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had. I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take when people run in circles..."

Oh, well, maybe is just Gary Jules ;-) But still is trying to say something, don't you think?

Btw, as you can see I've opened an account on Livejournal.

Glasses,
Jen.

Finally!!! :D

Yes. Definitely that's one of the most beautiful and meaningful scenes I've had the pleasure of watching in the last years of cinema. And actuatually, as you know, those great lyrics are the work of Tears for Fears, even though the original version of the song isn't for anyone's taste.

Btw, what are you waiting for? Add me to your friends list NOW! :D

And darling, welcome. We were expecting you ;-).

Every time I read your comments about Donnie Darko, I feel quite... outsider. You know, my only memory about it is "Oh, please, Lord Almighty, please, end this agony and let me kick this piece of crap back to the coldest Hell". Maybe not so expressive, but you can catch the idea, right?

So, once a year, you see it again. You comment it again, and I feel like a fool. And I've not enough will to see it again by myself...
Man, wen you see me next time, remerber me that we must see the $%&$& film together, ok? It's like a thorn in my mind...

Ok. Count on it. Even if they don't show it I should start it as a tradition or something. Like my equivalent of Thanksgiving day ;-D.

And don't worry you don't have to like it. It's a very odd film, I realise that. And very eighties, which is another reason that maybe makes you find it disgusting :-).

But it also has a beautiful soundtrack. Btw, have you realised that are already two ads on tv right now that use Donnie Darko's soundtrack?

Not disgusting, it was more like been killed sloooooooooooowly and painfully. Agonic, indeed. But at the same time, I saw glimpses of awesomeness in dialogs and realization. Maybe was me the problem, not the film.
I barely remember the soundtrack, but I feel it was sometimes oddly beatyfull. What ads are these two? I'm very interested now...

¡no tengo palabras! :):P ¡y cantando!

Take care!!!
